Machine Zone
Full-Stack Developer | Mobile Game Development | Live Ops
Machine Zone (MZ) is known for large-scale, real-time mobile strategy games like Game of War, Mobile Strike, and Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire. During my time there, I worked across front-end and back-end systems, focusing on scalable UI, feature implementation, and live game maintenance for titles with millions of players.
Project Scope & Contributions
I was responsible for full-stack development within a live, large-scale mobile game environment. My work covered everything from in-game features and UI systems to server-side logic, data modeling, and tools used by design and QA teams. I contributed to both new feature development and ongoing content updates, collaborating with engineers, designers, and producers in a high-output environment.
Feature Implementation
I contributed directly to high-impact features that shaped gameplay and player retention.
Highlights:
Developed front-end and back-end logic for limited-time events, quests, and combat mechanics.
Built tools to control event timing, player eligibility, and server rewards.
Optimized feature delivery for low-memory devices without compromising gameplay clarity.
UI/UX Systems
I built and maintained modular UI components that could scale with new features or seasonal content.
Highlights:
Implemented dynamic UI modules (menus, reward popups, shops) with localization and animation support.
Built UI pipelines that allowed designers to preview changes without full-engine deployments.
Ensured consistent UI behavior across multiple resolutions and aspect ratios.
Server-Side Development
I worked on backend logic to support real-time events, player state tracking, and data security.
Highlights:
Created APIs and backend services for player data management, inventory, and progression.
Implemented server logic for battle calculations, cooldowns, and reward delivery.
Maintained uptime and scalability through performance profiling and async task handling.
Tooling & Live Ops Support
I supported the internal team with tools and dashboards to monitor game health and content delivery.
Highlights:
Developed web-based dashboards for QA and designers to preview and validate live content.
Built internal tools to test reward flows, localization strings, and content rollout schedules.
Integrated logging systems to catch server issues and abnormal player behavior in real time.
Testing & Quality
Given the scale of MZ games, I worked closely with QA and automation teams to ensure quality on fast-paced content pipelines.
Highlights:
Wrote and maintained unit tests for backend logic and API layers.
Coordinated cross-platform testing (iOS/Android) to avoid regressions during feature rollouts.
Helped design and validate A/B testing tools for new mechanics and player incentives.
Summary
Working at MZ was one of my most intense and rewarding experiences. I learned to deliver at scale, write maintainable full-stack systems, and support a live game ecosystem with millions of concurrent users. The pace was fast, the scope was massive, and the quality bar was high, Iām proud of what I contributed to those live services.
